Kokokan ᬓᭀᬓᭀᬓᬦ᭄ is the local name for the eastern cattle egret (Bubulcus coromandus). The Eastern cattle egret is a species of heron native to Southern, Eastern and Australasia.
The inspiration for this work comes from the Kokokan colony of Petulu village in Bali, Indonesia. The beautiful village is a home of thousands of kokokan that always come back to the big trees in the village to spend their night after a day of hunting in the rice fields. The villagers believe that these birds are a God's gift to protect the village from bad things, such as pests in the real world (skala ᬲ᭄ᬓᬮ) and in the spiritual world (niskala ᬦᬶᬲ᭄ᬓᬮ).
The artworks combine the portraits of the birds with Balinese ornaments known as prada style, drawn digitally with a style of linocut print in two colors.
